After he returns the purse and she finds snacks in it accompanied with a note ("today was a difficult day. This is one of the two or three books that I buy for all of my friends who are having babies-- a classic deserving of shelf space right along with "Where the Wild Things Are," "Amos and Boris," "George and Martha," "Ferdinand," "The Cat in the Hat," and (new favorite) "Food Hates You Too." In particular, "Lilly" is a must for children starting school. The child-mouse Lilly (familiar from other Henkes books, like "Chester's Way") is irrepressible, well-meaning, and spiteful-- a real kid. This book is a true classic.
is a good lesson for children on the importance of saying I'm sorry, without ever being preachy or saccharine. Henkes is terrific because he doesn't sugar-coat his characters; part of what makes Lilly special is that she has her flaws. Slinger). Slinger (all teachers should be Mr.
Slinger, after he confiscates for the day her purple purse because she keeps interrupting class to show it off, Lilly retaliates by producing a nasty drawing of "big fat mean Mr. How she makes amends to the perfectly understanding Mr. It tracks the complexity of the kindergartner/ teacher relationship-- the student's infatuation with the teacher, her disillusionment, her betrayal, her remorse, her amends. Tomorrow will be better"), Lilly is horrified, stricken with remorse.
Slinger's book bag. Angry at her beloved teacher, Mr. stealing teacher") and slipping it into mr.
It was just a little long for reading before bedtime, where my grandkids usually have a choice of three books each read to them. My granddaughter loves this book.
And it's confiscated. Then she - predictably - is upset at her teacher instead of herself. Despite the fact that his books feature anthropomorphic mice, Kevin Henkes' characters are always strikingly realistic. which she repents from when she realizes he doesn't totally hate her after all.The descriptions of her feelings are just right, and she settles her problem in just the way I'd suggest to a kid in her situation. So she writes him a nasty letter. Lilly is no exception. When she gets a COOL PURSE from her grandma, she has a predictably hard time waiting until Show-and-tell. so hard a time that she doesn't wait.
It is well made with wonderful pictures. I bought this book for my two year old granddaughter and she loves it.
I think this book is good for k-2nd grade. Lilly loves her purse. This story is about a girl who got a brand new purse. So they can have reading.I think this is a wonderful story. Plus she's very anxious to show it off, that's why like this book. She really wants to show it to her classmates, but her teacher Mr. Slinger wants her to wait at an appropriate time.I love this book because Lilly is very precious and for giving.
